This one will be short. Sometimes, I just don't understand.
Earlier this month, I was asked to take on a project to research the types of
calls that the help desk receives after an employee get's a new machine and make
recommendations. I requested addtional information and was told to look at a 2
week window after receipt of the new machine and look for any areas of
improvements that we might make, like wireless LAN . Ok. Timeline? No definite
timeline. Just as you have time. So I accept it.
One week later, a high priority project lands and I'm asked to take it on. I
mention that I'll have to push aside the research project to make time for this
one. "That's fine, no rush on the research project."
The next monday is Labor Day. My boss is taking the week of Labor Day off. It's
the day after Labor Day. I come in to find an email saying:
I hope you had a nice 3-day weekend! I was looking through my emails to make
sure I have all the bases covered before taking vacation and noticed this one
(see below). You might have already sent an update and I didn't catch it, but if
not, just thought I should send you gentle reminder as things were crazy last
week. At a minimum we owe xxxxx by end of day Tuesday or worst case scenario,
end of day Wednesday....
WHAT?
So I work my butt off . SQL queries, pivot tables and charts, etc.... And send
the information. Good right? Wrong. I get this back:
Are these wireless calls only as they relates to new machines? I’m guessing yes
since the volume is so low. I need to see the broader wireless picture as well.
So wait, you don't just want to see calls after new machines? I'm sorry, I must
have miss-heard what was asked. You want to see what Wireless LAN calls we are
getting and areas of improvements? Correct
So, looks like back to square one. I need a management translator....
